Journals Provide Unique Techniques for Coping

The altered book is one of several journaling techniques used at Rogers to help individuals cope with stress, process feelings, and express artistic abilities. An altered book is a book that has been changed into a work of visual art through painting, drawing, collage, and other embellishments.

Using journals provided by the Foundation’s Angel Fund, patients add thoughts and feelings to a page, make revisions to create new meaning, and even delete portions of stories to help them find their voice. The beauty of the altered book is how patients are able to express themselves in a way that makes them feel good.

Your gift will help ensure that each patient receives a special journal “compliments of the Foundation” during their stay at Rogers Memorial Hospital. Designate your gift to “Angel Fund” and write “journals” in the comments box.
