Linda’s Generous Heart Gives Joy to Children at Rogers

When Linda Buxa heard about the children and teens going through treatment at Rogers Memorial Hospital over Christmas, her heart was heavy. As she walked around the stores this holiday season, she began to cry thinking about these kids going through such a difficult time in their lives. Familiar with our mission, Linda knew she wanted to help make the season bright for these young patients. As a part of the Foundation’s “Give for a Better Day” holiday drive, she mentioned the idea to the Bible study group she and her husband host through Hope church in Oconomowoc.

“When I mentioned this drive to the study group,” explains Linda, “they were all in! Thirteen people from the study group donated, as well as families from our kids’ school, St. Matthew’s in Oconomowoc. I also write for a ministry called ‘Time of Grace,’ and I thought it would be good to drop off a few samples of our materials to the Spiritual Care program at Rogers. When I mentioned this to fellow ‘Time of Grace’ staff members, they gave me a $100 gift card to purchase more gifts.”

Following in their mother’s footsteps, Linda’s children have also expressed an interest in helping. They suggested using the guest room closet as a holding area to start collecting items for next year. Linda says that her son’s goal is to fill the closet!

This holiday season, the Foundation will distribute gifts to more than 350 children and teens currently going through treatment at Rogers Memorial Hospital in Oconomowoc, West Allis, Brown Deer and Kenosha. It’s also important to note that while the holidays are especially critical for children, the need for donations extend throughout the year – not only for children, but for all ages.

We would like to extend our most sincere thanks to Linda, her family, and everyone who donated to this effort. Your gifts send the message that people care, and they are not alone. Thanks to you, the youngest of patients at Rogers will be able to experience joy this season.
