The 20th Annual Rogers Golf Classic has come and gone, but the effects of its success will benefit patients and families at Rogers Memorial Hospital for many months to come! This year’s event drew the highest proceeds in the outing’s history, with a total of $105,000 contributing toward such life-saving initiatives as free treatment for those in need and personal items that will help make the treatment process easier.
On July 13, 2015, The Legend at Brandybrook in Wales, Wisconsin welcomed 144 golfers to the course. It turned out to be a picture-perfect afternoon, despite a series of thunderstorms that rumbled through the area that morning. Throughout the day, golfers were entertained with several new and unique hole events, including “Hit the Windshield,” “Hit Inside the Circle” and four “Hole-in-One” opportunities, including the chance to win a Chevrolet car. Festivities continued as golfers passed by the photo hole. Teams took advantage of the costume bin filled with hats, capes, grass skirts and yes, even a feather boa or two!
Amidst the laughter and comradery, the purpose of the outing was ever present. The evening’s program welcomed Ashely and Ryen, who courageously shared their journey into the depths of heroin addiction and back. They were joined at the podium by Amy Kuechler, PsyD, who spoke about how Rogers’ dual diagnosis treatment program in Brown Deer is working to reach teens early in the addiction process, and how it is saving lives by treating not only the substance abuse issue, but also the underlying mental health issues.
At the conclusion of the program, the cash raffle winner was drawn. Congratulations to Ben Scharpf! We would also like to extend our thanks to him, as well, for graciously donating the $500 cash prize back to the Foundation in support of patient care.
