The story of a cookie that changed a life

On November 11, 2022, Rogers Behavioral Health Foundation hosted its annual Gala event in downtown Milwaukee. At each of our guests’ place settings that night was a delicious sugar cookie adorned with the event’s “shine the light” icon in frosting. It was made by Costa Cookie Company and Bakery located in Hartland, Wisconsin.

After the event, the owner, Cheryl, proudly posted a photo of the cookie on her website with some information about Rogers Behavioral Health next to it.

Little did she know that a mother would stumble across this page a short time after and see the information about Rogers just as she was grappling with what to do to help her child struggling with a mental health challenge.

The mother contacted Cheryl who helped in making the connection with Rogers.  In a note to the Foundation, here’s what Cheryl had to say:

Hello and Happy New Year!  I am writing to you today to say thank you to Rogers Behavioral Health.

Shortly after we met, a customer called me who had a teenager in need. The customer had seen your company on our corporate page on our website and called me asking about Rogers and if they could help. I assisted her in contacting Rogers immediately that day, and our customer’s child received the help they needed at Rogers.

I personally wanted to thank you for reaching out to our company.  Our customer truly believes our interaction saved her child’s life.  She did not know anything about Rogers and did not know it was located in our community. I am a true believer in “everything happens for a reason.”

We would like to thank you, and everyone at Rogers, for what they do and know that the company in which you all work saved a life and gave a family new hope in 2023.

Sincerely,
Cheryl Costa
