New Arcade Enhances Patient Experience

In a creative step forward of our ongoing commitment to patient-centered care, Rogers Behavioral Health unveiled a new arcade and game room on our campus in Brown Deer, Wisconsin. Created for all age groups including children, adolescents, and adults, it is quickly making a meaningful impact.

The idea stemmed from a desire to create more incentive-based experiences that support both clinical outcomes and personal well-being.

We needed to implement a new experience for all of our patients,” says Maya Robinson, director of Clinical Services. “Specific to the child and adolescent unit, we needed to give our patients more incentive-based experiences where we could also incorporate the learned skills into a space where they could practice and use. Specific to our adult unit, we wanted to ensure that they also had more leisure time after having an extended day of programming.”

While the arcade certainly delivers fun, it also serves a deeper purpose. The space was designed to encourage emotional regulation, social interaction, and therapeutic engagement for everyone on campus.

“Having the new Rogers Arcade brings benefits for both staff and patients that include social interaction that can help with reducing isolation and fostering a sense of community,” Maya explains. “Most importantly, it fosters team engagement for patients when working with their 1:1 and are able to utilize the game room when re-regulated, which helps to engage and build patient/staff rapport.”

The game room is open to all patients and staff. To appeal to all age groups and interests, the arcade features:

  • Basketball hoops
  • Skee-Ball
  • An infinity table with over 200 games for solo or partner play
  • Classic Ms. Pac-Man
  • NBA Jam
  • Space shooters

Since launch, one thing is clear: people love it! “Patients like the game room (mostly adults) because they never get bored,” Maya shared. “Some of our children and adolescents tend to be savvier with new games … We have learned to adjust their time to weekends more so that they can have a new experience during their stay.”

While the program continues to evolve, early responses from patients and staff is promising: small environmental changes can have a big impact on a person’s experience while getting treatment at Rogers Behavioral Health. The Rogers Arcade has quickly become more than just a fun diversion and a meaningful part of the healing process. What began as a fun idea has become an important part of how we support the whole person in recovery.
